How is vitamin D actually produced?
In young and healthy skin, vitamin D is formed through a sequence of simple chemical reactions. The UV-B radiation contained in sunlight first converts a form of cholesterol (7-dehydro-cholesterol) into a pre-form of vitamin D3 (previtamin D3) in the upper layer of the skin (epidermis) and then further converted into vitamin D3 by the heat . Two separate metabolic processes are then required to reach its active form, the vitamin D hormone calcitriol. Part of the vitamin D3 formed in the skin is channelled directly into the cells via the blood. Various enzymes convert it into its active form. Vitamin D3 formed in this way is active for approx. 24 hours and is then excreted . The other part first undergoes a remodelling process in the liver, where it is converted into the storage and transport form 25(OH)D3. 25(OH)D3 is the most common form of vitamin D in the body and is also used to measure vitamin D levels. This storage and transport form is then transported by the transport molecules to the kidneys, where it is converted into the active vitamin D hormone calcitriol in a hormonally regulated mechanism .
What are the prerequisites for sufficient vitamin D production via the skin?
Older skin is more likely to suffer from cell disorganisation and dryness. The prerequisites for effective vitamin D production in the skin are:
- A fully functional and well-structured cell membrane
- Maximising the use of light: adjusting the optical properties of the skin.
- Strengthening the deep water reserves: Vitamin D synthesis requires a good water balance.
How does Instant D Day Cream work?
Instant D Day Cream contains NECTARIA LITHOPS™, an extract from the desert plant Lithops pseudotrun-catella ("living stones").
The active ingredient is able to biophysically optimise the skin's microenvironment and vitamin D levels . The product's mechanism of action consists of optimising the skin's microenvironment. This innovative approach is based on the improvement of the skin structure, which restructures the cells and thus creates the basis for vitamin D production. At the same time, the deeper moisture reserves are built up.
In addition to the plant stem cells, the product also contains the active ingredient complex Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC), Pullulan, Porphyrydium Cruentum Extract. Pullulan and HPMC provide an immediate and long-lasting firming effect. They smooth the skin and retain moisture. In addition to its high content of polysaccharides and carbohydrates, Porphyridium cruentum is an important source of lipids and contains a broad spectrum of essential and non-essential amino acids. The protozoa is also rich in vitamins and minerals.
Application of Instant D Day Cream:
Apply one stroke of the cream in the morning to cleansed facial skin, neck and décolleté and leave to absorb. The Instant D Day Cream can also be mixed with a pea-sized amount (or more depending on the size of the application area) of the Instant Wrinkle Eraser and then applied for an immediate smoothing and firming effect.
